Madison -- For 45 years the Madison Eagle Christmas Fund (MECF) has poured kindness and generosity into families and seniors facing financial challenges during the holidays. The MECF exists because of an effort and enthusiasm for neighbors taking care of one another.  As a special thank you to the many groups and families who have assisted with their mission, the MECF wants to show gratitude with good tidings in the form of festive fun for the entire family.   Here are some events around town to help you locate and embrace the spirit of the season. Happy Holidays!

Saturday, December 5: The MECF presents local musicians Jeff Ertz and Jason Biggs.  They’ll perform from 2-3pm near Madison Santa’s house (from a safe social distance) filling the air with carols and kindness. The MECF is singing “thank you” to all our sponsors, donors, and on behalf of the families and seniors served.

Friday, December 11th-Sunday, December 13th: Buy a streaming ticket for the Madison High School Production of It’s a Wonderful Life. With pandemic creativity and passion in play, see our high school students reinvent the wonder of Bedford Falls via the streets of Madison.

Wednesday, December 16th: Snap a scene. Calling all amateur photographers, we’re asking you to snap your favorite holiday scene in Madison and tag us on Instagram and Facebook on December 16th. By doing so you’ll automatically be entered to win a prize from a Madison business.

Monday, December 21st:  Take a winter walk with us! It’s the longest day of the year, but we believe in a good solstice shuffle. So walk to your favorite place in town, tag us on Instagram and/or Facebook, and you’ll be entered to win a prize from a Madison business.

Looking for more things to do? Children of all ages are invited to make holiday cards for  MECF recipients. Email MECF at madisoneaglechristmasfund@gmail.com for a drop off address.

Those seeking to donate to MECF can access the new GoFundMe directly by clicking this link. Cash donations also can be made through the insert provided in the October electric bill, by posting a check payable to the Madison Eagle Christmas Fund, PO Box 2, Madison, NJ 07940 or directly through the website at madisoneaglechristmasfund.org. The GoFundMe QR code will also be available on window signs for those doing curbside pickup.

The MECF raises about $30,000 annually, but organizers are setting a goal of $50,000 this year to cover a large increase in families.  The group relies solely on donations and volunteers to cover operating expenses.   Last year, the fund assisted 48 families and 52 senior citizens, providing holiday gifts such as coats, toys, books, grocery and gas gift cards for close to 200 Madison residents.  To learn more about MECF and other donation opportunities in town, please visit the webpage at www.madisoneaglechristmasfund.org, like the group on Facebook or follow on Instagram.
