MADISON, NJ – Several student musicians representing Madison High School earned positions in regional and all-state musical ensembles and have recently performed with those ensembles. Juniors Aileen Bergin, Molly McCarthy and Elizabeth Monkemeier were selected last spring to participate in the New Jersey All-State Treble Chorus after a competitive audition organized by the New Jersey Music Educators Association (NJMEA). The teens performed with the NJ All-State Women’s Chorus recently at a concert at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC). Freshman Jake Antmann also was selected as first chair euphonium in the Regions Junior Band and performed earlier this week.
Caryn Elefante, the Madison High School (MHS) chorus teacher, and Frank Batsch, MHS band teacher, prepared the musicians for the rigorous auditions. Treble Chorus rehearsals began in the fall and culminated on Saturday, February 25 with the NJPAC performance. The Regions Junior Band concert took place at Madison Junior School on Sunday, March 5 at 3pm.
McCarthy also participated last year’s NJ All-State Mixed Chorus. Bergin and Monkemeier sang last year with the Northern New Jersey Regional Chorus. All three juniors are active members of the Madison High School chorus as well as “Mad Jazz,” the school’s select chorus, and the annual MHS musical production.
