MADISON, NJ - On Saturday, Feb. 6, 16 Madison High School Softball Players spent their morning participating in “Sticker Shock”, a program designed to deter persons of legal drinking age from purchasing alcohol for minors. The girls placed bright green decals on just about every case of beer in two local liquor stores. The stickers remind those of legal drinking age of the penalties (six months in jail and $1,000 fine) if they are convicted of purchasing alcohol for minors.

The program was organized by Frank Iannarone from Madison Pharmacy and is sponsored by MAASA (Madison Alliance Addressing Substance Abuse, www.maasa.org) in partnership with The Community Coalition for a Safe and Healthy Morris and Morris County Prevention is Key (www.mcpik.org). The girls will also accrue community service hours a requirement at Madison High School.

Main Street Wine Cellars in the Staples shopping center and Rose City Liquors on Main Street in Madison were both very eager and cooperative to participate in this program for the fourth consecutive year.
