MORRISTOWN, NJ - The Interact Club of Madison High School, with assistance from the Madison Rotary, ran a very successful food drive on the High School's day of service May 26th, benefiting the NourishNJ food pantry in Morristown. After that success, the Interact Club wanted to develop an ongoing food collection program.
"The club wants to establish a free food donation collection service", said Club President Elisabetta Araya. "The club will supply interested Madison families with a container (either weather resistant shopping bags or plastic containers with lids) to be filled with non-perishables for weekly or bi-weekly "no-contact" pickup from your front steps.
"Collected food will be delivered to the First Baptist Church in Madison, which runs an in-town food pantry as a community outreach program, or the Interfaith Food Pantry in Morris Plains, or NourishNJ in Morristown", she said. "The program would continue through at least the current Covid 19 crisis."
With support from Mayor Bob Conley (also a member of Madison Rotary) the Interact Club is surveying the town through direct email, churches, non-profits and social media to identify interested families.
"We need to understand if there are enough families that are interested in participating in this donation program. Secure online monetary donations will also be accepted through this program", said organizers.
