MORRISTOWN, NJ — It was all Madison Dodgers on Wednesday evening, defeating Montville 10-1 and improving their record to 10-6-2 on the season. It has been four weeks since the Dodgers have lost a game, going 8-0-1 in that span.
Madison wasted no time scoring their first goal of the game, coming from Alvin Rhee and assisted by Charlie Cleaves just two and a half minutes in. The Dodgers would go on to score four more goals, including two from Dave Renzulli, one from Cleaves after he stole the puck at the opponents blue line, and another from Ian Skinner.
After Montville got their first goal of the game, Jett Tom would respond with a goal of his own to go ahead, 6-1. Minutes later, Renzulli would find the back of the net to complete the hat trick. Skinner would end the period with his second goal to put the Dodgers into the 3rd period up 8-1.
“Renzulli does a great job in front of the net,” Head coach Dave Hansen said. “He’s a two way player and does a fine job on offense and defense as well."
With five minutes remaining in the game, freshman Liam Fry picked up his first goal for Madison, assisted by Matt Leone and Will Scavone. Matt DeBoer would get on the board with two minutes remaining to put the game at a 10-1 final score.
“We just got to keep playing 45 minutes of hockey,” Hansen said. “No matter what the score, as long as we play hard good things will happen for us."
The Dodgers offense ended the game with 45 shots and Madison goalie Matt Ubertaccio recorded 20 saves on 21 shots.
After playing three games in four days, Madison will have a little break until they play Sparta on Saturday, January 21st.
