The Rotary Club of Madison is pleased to announce the 5th Annual Colombia Independence Day Festival will be held at the Madison Area YMCA on Sunday, July 24 from 1:00 pm until 6:00 pm.

Members of the Fundacion Unidos por Filandia (United for Filandia Foundation) and Quindianos Unidos por Colombia (United Quindianos for Colombia) have organized their group of volunteers to assist in the event.  The celebration is a great family-fun day with soccer games for the adults;  inflatable moonwalks, face-painting for the kids, pinatas.  Once again, this event  promises to be an ethnic feast with  n expanded program of Colombian music, dancing, folkdancing, and entertainment. The menu of Colombian food will include favorites such as empanadas, lechona, avenas, mosarepas, chuzos, chorizos, helados, etc. No smoking or drinking is permitted at this event.

The growing Latino population of Madison is mostly Colombian, the second largest ethnic group in the Borough.  Most of Madison's Colombians are from the towns of Filandia and Armenia, in the state of Quindio, an area known for its natural beauty, rural tourism and coffee production.  Proceeds raised from this event will benefit the reconstruction and expansion of a children's rehabilitation center in Filandia.
