UNION, NJ - Madison wrestlers Santi Arango and Kyriakos Kostidakis each won a tight battle in the NJSIAA Region 3 preliminaries held Wednesday at Union High.
Arango erased a one-point deficit, scoring a two-point reversal to win, 4-3, over Azir Lawson of Elizabeth in his 220-pound match. Arango (23-4) moves on to the region quarterfinals on Friday at Union, where he will face Junid Homsi (27-7) of Parsippany.
Kostidakis (22-6) won in an ultimate ride out in his heavyweight preliminary victory over Ahmed Homsi of Parsippany. Kostidakis will face Michael Kellstrom (29-5) of Chatham in the quarterfinals. Kostidakis faced Kellstrom in his very first match of the season and lost a 3-1 decision.
