MADISON, NJ – The Madison High School wrestling team competed at District 12 at Becton High School on Saturday along with Barringer, Becton, Belvidere, Newark East Side, Rutherford, Union City, Warren Hills, West Morris and West Orange.

Warren Hills won the team title at District 12.

The Dodgers took fifth behind Warren Hills, runner-up West Morris Central, West Orange and Belvidere.

At 120 pounds, Madison’s Matt Hernandez reached the semifinals before falling to Damianlee Torres of West Orange, the top seed, in a 13-3 major decision.

At 126, Madison’s Thomas Packie reached the semifinals as the fourth seed, falling to top-seeded and eventual winner Malachi Shepard in a technical fall in the semis.

In the 138-pound bracket, fourth-seeded Matthew Piotrowsky of Madison lost to top- seeded and eventual winner Geir Nemeth of Warren Hills in the semifinas by fall.

At 145, Madison’s Jason Candelario made the final as the second seed, losing to Eli Shepard by technical fall in 5:40.

At 160, the Dodgers’ Connor Gilfillan made the semis before losing to top-seeded and eventual winner Owen Frizzell by fall in 5:25.

At 220, third-seeded Julian Moszcynski reached the semifinals before falling to second- seeded and eventual winner Amadu Kamara by fall in 2:35.
