MADISON, NJ — “I was just so excited,” Sawyer Tadano said. “I put a lot of work and preparation into this.” Those were Tadano’s words after winning the 1600m and 800m North 2, Group 2 Winter Track Sectional Championship. Tadano ran a time of 4:30.20 in the 1600m and 2:01.90 in the 800m. He is selected as this week’s Mary Comito State Farm Athlete of The Week.
Both races went down to the wire, as Tadano won the 1600m with just 1.3 seconds to spare and the 800m within just a mere .04 seconds.
“My goal into it was to win both,” Tadano said. “There was some great competition and I’m just honored to be apart of it.”
Tadano has been running every since he was a kid, and a big part of that is due to watching his cousins run.”
“It has some to do with family for sure,” Tadano replied. “Both my cousins ran and I looked up to them. Once I saw them succeed I tried it out and loved running every since.” It’s Tadano’s fourth year running for the Madison Dodgers High School Track team, and even started in middle school for the town recreation program.
He will be continuing his track career at Middlebury College in Vermont, where he’s thinking about majoring in physics. He was very adamant of how the coaches have helped him get to this point in his career.
“They help out so much with training and making sure we are practicing the right way,” Tadano said. “They do a great job setting us up to get to our full potential.”
As a team, the Dodgers have had an up and down year, due to a loss of a lot of seniors graduating.
“We had a lot of seniors go to college and they were a big part of our team last year,” Tadano said. “This season was more about getting the younger guys involved and helping them progress for the future.”
Tadano will be running in the 800m in the Group Championship on Saturday, February 18th and is hoping to qualify for the NJ Meet of Champions.
