NEW JERSEY - New Jersey is now reporting vaccination numbers. As of February 25, the dashboard is reporting 1,821,510 total vaccinations (1,222,785 first doses and 598,359 second doses). In Morris County, the dashboard is showing that as of today, 135,144 doses of vaccines have been administered.
At this time, the vaccine supply is extremely limited and appointments will only be made available to eligible recipients as supply allows.
The phases of vaccination are as follows:
Phase 1A – Health care workers with direct or indirect exposure to infectious materials and staff of long-term congregate setting
Phase 1B – Frontline essential workers and other high-risk groups
Phase 1C – Other essential workers, adults 65 and older and 16-64 year olds with medical conditions that make them prone to COVID according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
Phase 2 – The general population when enough doses of the vaccine are available.
New Jersey’s Phase 1A vaccinations began December 15. Phase 1B began on January 7, 2021.
It’s difficult to predict when each phase will begin and end due to not knowing how many doses of the vaccine will be available at any particular time.
The Office of the Governor stated, “The mega sites are a collaborative partnership with the NJDOH, New Jersey All-Hazards Incident Management Team (NJ-AHIMT), New Jersey Office of Emergency Management, healthcare providers, local/county health officials, local/county health departments and local/county emergency management.”
According to the government’s COVID site, “New Jersey's COVID-19 vaccination program aims to:
- Provide equitable access to all who live, work, and/or are educated in New Jersey
- Achieve community protection, assuming vaccine effectiveness, availability, and uptake
- Build sustainable trust in COVID-19 and other vaccines
The state COVID fact sheet lists the organizations that helped create the vaccination phases.
“New Jersey’s phased approach is informed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP), the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM), the New Jersey Department of Health COVID-19 Professional Advisory Committee (PAC), the Coronavirus Task Force (CTF), and extensive stakeholder engagement.”
