Morris County Prosecutor Fredric M. Knapp, Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Acting Chief of Investigations Christoph Kimker, and Parsippany-Troy Hills Police Chief Andrew Miller confirm the investigation of a fire occurring at the Rutgers Village Apartment Complex in Parsippany, New Jersey on December 29, 2019.

At approximately 12:34 p.m., the Deputy Chief of the Parsippany District #5 Fire Department was at the Rutgers Village Apartment Complex and observed an active fire.  Multiple apartments were heavily damaged as a result of the fire. The preliminary investigation has revealed that the fire resulted in one (1) fatality. The investigation remains ongoing and the identity of the individual will not be released at this time. The cause of the fire is undetermined, however, there is no indication that the fire was intentionally set.
