Madison police have arrested a local man in connection with a Feb. 12 burglary on Sayre Court inside the Madison Common condominium development.
Ptl. Nelson Jimenez, the Madison police force’s newest addition, was dispatched to a home on Sayre Court, where a burglary in progress had been reported.
Upon arrival, Jimenez reportedly observed a broken window and saw the alleged burglar inside the home, according to police.
Officers ordered the 47-year-old man outside and subsequently determined he had just burglarized the complex boiler room and damaged gas and water utilities inside, police said. The amount of damage exceeded $20,000, officers reported.
The suspect, Gabriele Catalano Jr., was charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, fourth-degree criminal mischief involving water and utilities and disorderly conduct, according to authorities. Police said he was later released pending an upcoming appearance at the Morris County Superior Court in Morristown.
