NEWARK, NJ – Air Force One touched down at Newark Airport on Monday afternoon at 1:20, bringing President Barack Obama to New Jersey.  He was on his way to speak on the issue of criminal justice policy at the Center for Law and Justice at Rutgers University Newark campus.

The awaiting assembly included sharp shooters on roof tops, members of the Secret Service, Port Authority Police officers and  State Police officers in cars, trucks and even a helicopter that hovered motionless at the end of the runway as the president’s plane taxied through the locked down airport.

A crowd of about 75 people, including a number of young children waited as he descended from Air Force One, saluting the two military personnel at the bottom of the stairs.  In addition to the invited guests the president was greeted by U.S. Senator Cory Booker, N.J. Congressman Donald Payne, Jr., Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and Elizabeth Mayor Chris Bollwage.

After a brief greeting under the iconic blue and white plane, the president walked across the tarmac to shake hands and even high-five the guests who had been patiently waiting for their moment with Obama.  The youngest visitors were hoisted up on shoulders and prompted to move to the front to get a glimpse and possibly a quick word with the President.  Nearly everyone from the guests, to Newark Airport Firemen to the elected representatives took time to get a selfie.

The interaction lasted about 10 minutes before all of the VIPs were loaded into both to of the presidential armored cars, affectionately referred to as The Beast(s).  Following his visit and speech in Newark, Obama will attend a Democratic National Committee and Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee fundraiser in New York City.
