WEST ORANGE, NJ  On Friday, Feb. 10, Essex County Executive Joseph N. DiVincenzo, Jr. opened the Prudential Sea Turtle Recovery Center at Essex County's Turtle Back Zoo.

Essex County is partnering with the non-profit Sea Turtle Recovery to operate the facility, which will nurse cold-stunned or injured turtles back to health so they can be released back into the ocean.

This new project expands the conservation and education missions of Turtle Back Zoo and will heighten visitors’ awareness about protecting animals and the environment.

This initiative to help save Turtle Back’s namesake animal is supported by Prudential, Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Public Service Electric and Gas, and the Matrix Development Group.
