Suspect Flees on Foot After Robbing River Road Gas Station, Assaulting Attendant

SUMMIT, NJ - A man wearing a bandana to cover his face robbed the Shell gas station located at 6 River Road in  Summit just prior to 11 p.m. on July 9, fleeing the scene on foot with stolen cash after assaulting the station's attendant with a wrench.

According to the Summit Police -- who responded to the scene after receiving a 9-1-1 call at approximately 11 p.m. -- the gas station attendant told the responding officers that a male, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and a dark bandanna covering his face, approached him on foot and demanded the cash from the register.

As the attendant turned and opened the register drawer, the male struck him in the back of his head with a large wrench. The male struck the attendant a second time across his head and then removed the cash from the register.
