The Madison Area YMCA kicked off its Staff Appeal for the Y’s annual campaign Nov. 2 at the Family Center and F.M. Kirby Children’s Center.

Staff members will wear cause-driven blue baseball t-shirts on Thursdays at the YMCA, to show their commitment to Staff Appeal and raises awareness of the annual campaign. The staff is participating in a social media campaign, #SelfieWithSomeoneNew, that encourages YMCA members and staff to take selfies with someone they haven't met before.

“Now more than ever we must continue to bring people together, find common ground and bridge divides in the service of a better us,” said Leigh Anne Soroka, campaign director for the Madison Area YMCA. “Here at the Y, we know that can start with something as simple as striking up a conversation with someone you've just met!”

The annual campaign raises awareness and funds for the YMCA’s financial assistance program that enables children and families who work or reside within the Madison Area YMCA’s service area to participate in Y programs and services regardless of their ability to pay.

At least 333 staff members donated $47,743 this year to the Staff Appeal for the annual campaign and increased donations by more than $5,000 as compared to 2016.   

Support is provided based on demonstrated need. All donations remain local. The annual campaign also helps the YMCA broaden its reach into the initiation and enrichment of community wellness and health-enhancing programs.
