Victoria Cannizzo, soprano, will present a concert at Grace Church on Saturday, June 18 at 7:30 p.m.  A New Jersey native who earned her undergraduate degree in music from the University of Chicago in 2004, she received a Master of Music degree in opera from Binghamton University in May.

She most recently appeared as Violetta in Verdi’s La Traviata with Tri-Cities Opera in Binghamton, NY, where her performance was praised as “assured and lovely,” and the reviewer went on tos ay: “the famous ‘Sempre Libera’ was a mark of artistry. Strikingly beautiful, Cannizzo captured the genesis of Violetta’s hopeful but tragic circumstance – to love and to be loved.”

Her debut role with the company, La Contessa in Mozart’s Le Nozze diFigaro, was met with spectacular reviews naming Ms. Cannizzo “the show’s stand-out… She sang a particularly moving “Porgi amor” and is in possession of a darker, richer timbre than usually found in such a young singer. She is also a fine actress and made a striking figure on stage.” Ms. Cannizzo maintains an active concert schedule performing frequently with orchestra in NJ.  In her most recent concert with the Monmouth Symphony, a critic claimed that Ms. Cannizzo “effectively stole the show… with a near-perfect performance of scenes from Madama Butterfly… she was deeply engaged with the material on alllevels.”  In January 2011, Ms. Cannizzowas awarded the St. Bonaventure Prize from the prestigious Liederkranz FoundationVocal Competition and she appeared in the Winner’s Concert on March 26 that Weill Hall, NYC. Upcoming roles include the title role in Lucia diLammermoor and Pamina in Die Zauberflöte with Tri-Cities Opera.

Her concert at Grace will feature works by Chausson, Liszt, Puccini,John Adam and others.  Grace Church is at 4 Madison Ave. at Kings Rd. Donation at the door.
