MADISON, NJ - For the second year in a row, the Madison Environmental Commission is encouraging residents to go green by hosting individual yard sales on one common date at one common time: Saturday, October 19th 9:00am to 1 pm.

“The Town-Wide Yard Sale is a great way to meet your neighbors and shop in an environmentally friendly way,” says Maureen Byrne, Borough Council liaison to the Environmental Commission. “Last year over 40 homes participated in the yard sale—people came from as far away as Pennsylvania to shop.”

Residents can advertise their yard sales along with the type of merchandise offered through a premium event listing at Listings are $10 each and will be published not only on TapInto Madison but on its sister sites for neighboring towns. A Google Map with all the yard sale locations will be published on several days before the event.

To advertise your yard sale visit CREATE AN ACCOUNT or SIGN IN then SUBMIT CONTENT, EVENT LISTING, NON PROFIT $10 and type in MADISON for the location. 

“The Town-Wide Yard Sale, which is held every October, is a sister event to the Town Swap, which is held in the spring,” says Claire Whitcomb, Environmental Commission Chair. “We aim to make both events zero waste and hope that hope residents will arrange for nonprofits to pick up leftovers after their yard sales.

Nonprofits that offer home pickups include the Vietnam Veterans of America,, who will pick up clothing, shoes, household items, toys, books, bikes, small appliances, tools, bedding, draperies, curtains, electronics, jewelry and cosmetics. Market Street Mission,, has a thrift store and pick up service that accepts furniture, bedding, clothes, household items, cars and trucks. Habitat for Humanity’s ReStore, ReStore accepts antiques, furniture, flooring, brand new plumbing, painting supplies, doors and more.
