The Suburban Music Study Club of New Jersey is a local and regional group of musicians and music enthusiasts that presents high quality classical music each month and supports young musicians with a Fall recital and a Spring Scholarship Competition.
The historic club was founded in 1899 as The Music Study Club of Newark and the Oranges. The club eventually moved from Newark to the Maplewood-Millburn area and continued to meet in private homes.
Now based in Madison, The Music Study Club begins its 2019-2020 season with a Thursday morning recital on October 10th at 10:30 a.m. at Chatham United Methodist Church. Ray Butler, guitar, Victoria Griswold, piano, and Theodore Chletsos, tenor, with Chick Barnes, piano, will perform.
The first place winner of the club's 2019 Grace Gimbel Scholarship Competition, Christy Choi, cello, will perform at St. Catharine & St. Margaret Parish in Spring Lake on Sunday, October 6th at 3:00 p.m. with pianist, Na Yoen Kim.
Both recitals are free to the public; free will offerings will be available.
