Dear Kirby Families,

We continue to follow developments related to COVID-19/coronavirus and adjust as information unfolds. As you know, our mission is to provide a safe nurturing learning environment for your children. We provide important support for working families and appreciate that you are entrusting your children to us and you rely on us for their well-being when in your absence. We take this obligation very seriously.

After careful deliberation with state and local health officials and our staff and volunteer leadership, we have made the decision to close the Madison Area YMCA’s F.M. Kirby Children’s Center effective at the close of the day Wednesday, March 18, 2020. We plan to reopen at the earliest recommended date. We are aware that this situation continues to be extremely fluid, and, as a result, our reopening plan will remain to be determined.

Our decision was made out of concern for the health and well-being of all – your children and families, as well as our teachers and administrative staff. We are mindful of the duty to support the greater good – the welfare of people in our community and beyond, especially those who are most vulnerable.

We know that during these uncertain times, familiar routines, patterns and faces, especially of trusted teachers and care givers are important for children. Our talented and committed staff are developing tools and plans for distance and continued learning for your children. We want to be able to connect with you —and for you to be able to connect with each other— virtually. Important additional information will be forthcoming.

We look forward to the time—hopefully in the near future—when we can welcome our Kirby families back to our center. We see you as our family. Just as we are an integral part of your daily lives, so are you and your children equally a part of our lives.

Until then, be safe, stay well and take care.
