MADISON, NJ - At the virtual Board of Ed Meeting, held on Tuesday, July 14th, Superintendent Mark Schwarz presented a three-phase reopening plan for Madison Public Schools. Madison’s approach is designed to take into account the need for proper instruction while acknowledging health and safety concerns. At the request of the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE), all school districts are required to submit reopening plans.

During Phase 1, students will attend school on alternating days/weeks with early dismissal for in person days. Shortened school days will reduce the health risks provided by lunch periods and allow time for thorough cleanings. Following positive health data and/or the development of a vaccine, Madison Schools will enter subsequent phases. Phase 2 will see students in school every day with early dismissal while Phase 3 will have students in school every day for the full day. During each phase, remote accommodations will be provided for vulnerable students.

Madison’s reopening plan is still being finalized. A more concrete version will be presented at Madison’s Board of Ed Meeting on July 28th. Parents, students, and faculty, should closely monitor school and district communications for updates.
