MADISON, NJ -Families choose Kirby kindergarten, a full-day academic program, at the F.M. Kirby Children’s Center of the Madison Area YMCA because it is taught by a dedicated and caring teaching team with more than 10 years of experience teaching together. The program uses state-of-the-art technology and offers interactive learning and enriched program specials. Before- and after-care at the same location are just some of the many benefits of Kirby kindergarten. Parents and district teachers have reported that Kirby kindergarten students test and read above grade level by the end of the school year.

“We have been a Kirby family since 2010 and have always felt that their focus on education was a solid one rooted in knowing the child and teaching to that child’s abilities. We wanted a full day program that had a well-vetted curriculum but also wanted a nurturing environment for our daughter to start school in. Upon completion of the Kirby Kindergarten program, she started 1st grade well ahead in terms of reading and math. My son is currently in the program and is sharing the same experience.” -Jessica D., Current and Former KK Parent

“My family has had an overwhelmingly positive experience with Kirby Kindergarten. My daughter graduated from KK and my son is currently a student. KK focuses on the whole child - providing an environment in which my children were able to develop all the emotional, social and academic skills to allow them to thrive in elementary school.” - Mary S., Current and Former KK Parent

“The students were so bright, engaged and asked great questions. The classroom had such a warmth and supportive atmosphere. I think it speaks to the talented teaching staff.” -Christine M., Guest Speaker.

Using the same learning objectives as the public schools, Kirby kindergarten utilizes two teachers in the classroom resulting in a smaller teacher-to-student ratio, and a more individualized learning approach. Other benefits include:

  • Interactive learning with Chromebooks and the IPEVO Interactive Whiteboard System. Utilizing the latest technology, we bring advanced learning opportunities to the classroom.
  • Accessibility of the teachers to parents. With three parent-teacher conferences throughout the year and a comprehensive report card that includes both academic and social development, our parents are well-informed about every aspect of their child’s learning.
  • Enriched programming specials include: Spanish, music, computers, science and regularly scheduled trips to the Madison Public Library.
  • Before- and after-care, available at the same location, allows for seamless transitions and opportunities for learning to continue. After-care and KWrap students enjoy full-day programming when public schools are closed for breaks, holidays and weather-related closures (as long as the Kirby Center remains open). No-fee bussing is also available to and from programs at the Family Center including sports, gymnastics, enrichment, School of Performing Arts and Y Ninja Gym.
