MORRISTOWN, NJ - Effective this week, the Morris County Surrogate's Office has returned to nearly full staffing. When the pandemic first began affecting Morris County, we immediately created and implemented a plan to work remotely from the public, with partial staff and without the public coming to our office. This was for the protection of the public, the people working in our office and others in the building.

Now, as a result of an influx of probate matters exceeding the average monthly rate, we have made the decision to bring everyone in the Surrogate's Office back on a nearly full-time basis. In making this decision, we have taken into full consideration the safety everyone working in the office, the building and the public. In order to protect members of our team working in the Surrogate's Office, social distancing protocols and masks have been mandated for everyone at all times with additional partitions added in necessary locations. For our safety and yours, members of the public are still not permitted to visit our office but are still able to conduct business with us on a full-time basis over the phone via the internet and regular mail.

We regret any inconvenience to those who wish to visit our office personally but our first priority is keeping everyone safe so that we can continue to help anyone suffering from the loss of a loved one.
I am proud to work with each and every member of my team. While some Surrogates’ Offices throughout the State have chosen to stay home for their safety, probate cannot wait in many cases and they are now forced to reopen with full staff and, in some cases, allow public entry.  We are thankful that our staff has been here every day throughout this pandemic, thoughtfully serving the people of Morris County in a way that has kept, and will continue to keep, everyone safe.

Although we do not know when the Administration building will reopen to the public, we are working with buildings and grounds to prepare our office to be as safe as possible when the public returns.

As always, we are here to serve the great citizens of Morris County!!!!!
