MADISON, NJ - On Monday, July 13 th , Madison held its virtual town hall meeting. During the meeting Mayor Bob Conley along members of the town’s council provided various updates.
Mayor Conley announced that the council is working towards a settlement in housing, which will include 40 units of affordable homes. Several conferences are being held to discuss the matter. Conley along with other members of the council, are looking forward to bringing the matter to a close.
Debra Coen, Health & Community Affairs, reported that Madison remains in Stage 2 of reopening. Such locations as libraries, pools, and museums are open at 25% percent capacity. No additional Stage 2 or Stage 3 reopenings have been announced.
Carmela Vitale, Finance & Borough Clerk and Health, stated that in early June the council passed a key resolution from the tax collector’s office to establish a rate. Bills for the 3 rd quarter were mailed out on Monday, June 29 th and residents were advised to look out for them. A bill for the remaining quarters will be sent out later in the summer.
Vitale also reported that a user-friendly budget has been completed, which can be viewed on Rosenet.org. The document is a reformatting of the state budget document with additional details regarding pension and payroll. The purpose is to get the towns to report items in a more uniformed manner.
A moment of silence was taken to remember various Madison residents who passed away in the recent weeks. Vincent Hynes, age 95, was a World War II veteran who fought in D-Day. Janet Iossa, age 74, supported her husband Rocco’s restaurant of the same name. Lifelong resident Mary Salerno, age 89, cooked and prepared lunches for students in the cafeterias of Delbarton, Whippany Park, and Hanover Park High Schools. Phil Russo, age 89, was a self-employed business owner of Quality Maintenance.
