Jacoby Erickson, Aidan Niceberg and John Bear each racked up a pair of goals to bring the Dodger varsity ice hockey team to a 9-0 win over the Mendham Minutemen on Saturday at William G. Mennen Sports Arena.

Sophomore Kyle Pruzick got another point on the board for Madison—his 50th career goal and the Dodgers’ first on power play in four games. He also secured two assists.

Senior Jack Ticknor slapped his first-ever shot into the net, an unassisted, short-handed shot that flew right past Mendham goalkeeper Tanner Brown.

Madison won its first game of the season with a 9-1 defeat over the Minutemen Nov. 29, and Saturday’s shutout win, the final game before the playoffs begin this weekend, brought things full circle for the Dodgers.

Ryan Bagley also netted a shot on power play, along with a pair of assists. Dave Renzulli contributed three assists. Jack Downs, Ryan Catlin and Sean Hoover came in at one.

Mendham’s offense seemed to be in trouble against the Dodgers throughout Saturday’s game, making only six shots on goal to Madison’s 70. The Minutemen have only secured one win this season, defeating Nutley 6-4 on Dec. 29.

Now 16-5-1, the Dodgers go head to head on Saturday at 8:15 p.m. with the winner of the Feb. 8 Kinnelon-Sparta game for the Halvorsen Cup in the semifinals of this season’s playoffs. The location has not yet been confirmed.

Madison has already secured the Halvorsen Division and received a bye for the first round of the playoffs, heading immediately to the semifinals.

Kinnelon currently sits at 2-14-2 for the season, Sparta at 5-11-1.
