MORRIS TOWNSHIP, NJ - The Madison High School ice hockey team battled to a 3-3 tie against Chatham in the season opener at Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown on Saturday evening.

In the Morris County Secondary Schools Ice Hockey League Mennen Division meeting, the Dodgers took a 1-0 advantage with 5:50 remaining in the first period after Cormac
McNamara scored on a breakaway. Chatham responded with three second-half goals from Will White, Tommy Sennett and Spencer Spagnuolo.

With Madison trailing by two goals, Aidan Niceberg cut into the deficit with a goal with 2:39 remaining.

The Dodgers then pulled their goalie to bring in an extra attacker. Niceberg proceeded to score the game-tying goal on a backhander with 1:12 remaining.

Madison avoided the early-season loss with two late third-period goals. Chatham finished with a 34-25 advantage in shots. Jacob Erickson had two assists for Madison and Liam Fry and Matt Gero each had an assist.

Timmy Triano, Ryan Sordillo, Declan Curry and Ryan Mancino finished with assists for Chatham.

Madison will have some time in between games now, as its next time on the ice for a game will be against Sparta on Dec. 7.
