MOUTAIN LAKES, NJ - Opening the season with a defending state champion is never an easy task. The Madison High School girls tennis team opened the 2019 season with a 3-2 loss at 2018 Group 1 winner Mountain Lakes on Wednesday, Sept. 4.

Madison picked up victories at first and third singles.

The Dodgers are coming off a trip to the NJSIAA North Jersey, Section 2, Group 2 tournament quarterfinals before losing to Caldwell by a 4-1 score.

Madison defeated Parsippany in the first round of the tournament and concluded the season 5-8 overall. Madison saw Mountain Lakes in last season’s opener as well, with the Lakers coming away with a 5-0 victory. Mountain Lakes finished 16-2 overall and made it to the Tournament of Champions before falling to state powerhouse Holmdel. Mountain Lakes defeated Shore in the Group 1 final to win the state championship.

The team will host Kinnelon on Monday Septembe 9 at 4pm.
