MADISON, NJ – The Madison High School girls tennis team is ready for a new season to begin.

With just weeks away from the opening practice, the Dodgers and second-year head coach Nora Morgan are ready for a fun-filled season.

“The emphasis on the team will be to have fun,” Morgan said. “There are so many stressors affecting the students right now, so I want them to walk onto the court and forget about them.”

Morgan wants to see Madison off to a quicker start than last year.

“We started off slow last year, so I would like to get a few more wins in the beginning of this season,” the coach added.

Madison finished 2019 with a 5-9 record, winning state matches over Hanover Park and Caldwell before bowing out to Summit in the semifinal round of the NJSIAA North
Jersey, Section 2, Group 2 tournament. The Dodgers closed out the season winning three out of their last four matches.

A player to watch this season will be sophomore Marina Gobbi. She played last season at first doubles as a freshman and she will be vying for the first singles spot this year.

Two opponents Morgan looks forward to playing are Hanover Park and Villa Walsh.

“We always have great matches against Villa Walsh and Hanover Park, and I expect the same this year,” she said.
