MADISON, NJ – Megan Tierney represented Madison High School in the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association National Girls and Women in Sport Day
celebration on Sunday, Feb. 9 at Seton Hall University.
In the 34th anniversary of the celebration, New Jersey joined the nation in celebrating the achievements of girls and women in sport. The National Girls & Women in Sports Day (NGWSD) began in 1987 as a special day to recognize women’s sports. The day united premiere organizations and elite female athletes to bring national attention to the promise of girls and women in sports. NGWSD has since evolved into an event to acknowledge the accomplishments of female athletes, the positive influence of sports participation and the continuing struggle for equality for women in sports.
At the Richie Regan Rec Center on the campus of Seton Hall, an awards luncheon held nearly 200 NJSIAA student-athletes selected by their schools. Al Stump, NJSIAA Assistant Director, was among those who spoke at the luncheon.
Tierney, a senior, has been involved with the Madison girls volleyball and softball teams since her freshman year.
