MADISON, NJ – It was a busy Monday for the Madison High School winter teams right before the Christmas holiday.
Girls Basketball- Madison improved to 2-0 on the season after defeating Pequannock in a Monday afternoon game. Madison led 9-2 after one quarter and 22-12 at halftime. Tess Callaghan and Julia Olesen each registered eight points for the Dodgers.
Boys Ice Hockey- Madison defeated Vernon, 6-4, in the Essex Holiday Tournament at Codey Arena in West Orange on Monday. The Dodgers finished with a 43-32 edge in shots on goal. Snapping a two-game losing streak, the Dodgers improved to 4-2-1 on the season. Cormac McNamara led Madison with two goals, while Liam O’Hearen, Tyler Shannon, Jacob Erickson and Aidan Niceberg all scored. Matt Gero and Erickson had two assists apiece, and McNamara had one. Keaton Tom made 28 saves for the Dodgers. Madison will play Verona-Glen Ridge on Dec. 26 and Scotch Plains-Fanwood on Dec. 27 as part of the holiday tournament.
Boys Basketball- The Dodgers took on Arthur L. Johnson on the road Monday night. Coming off a season- opening win over Whippany Park, Madison was unable to win its second straight, falling to the Crusaders by a 55-41 score. The Dodgers led at halftime but were outscored 39-22 in the second half. Andrew Stack and Owen Eilender led Madison with eight points apiece. Aidan Laughery and Anthony Ferreira finished in double figures for Johnson. Madison will meet Somerville in the Cougar Classic at Chatham High School on Dec. 27 at 2 p.m. The Dodgers will then play New Providence Saturday afternoon before meeting host Chatham on Monday, Dec. 30.
