ROXBURY, NJ — A new - and long delayed - “treetop adventure course” in Ledgewood should be open next month, said one of its principals today.

The $4 million FLG X New Jersey adventure course received approval from the Roxbury Zoning Board in March, but could not open due to delays in securing state permits, said company and township officials.

But FLG X president Paul Kent said the project received engineering approvals from the state in late June and now just needs final inspections by the state Department of Community Affairs (DCA).

“It’s been a long and winding road,” Kent said, adding that the COVID-19 crisis added yet another hurdle. “We’re excited,” he said. “We can kind of see light at the end of the tunnel here, and we feel we are to open.”

The course features zip-lines, catwalks and other challenges of balance and bravery suspended high among trees on 45 acres overlooking Mt. Arlington-Ledgewood Road.

Kent said the company will be hiring about eight part-time employees. Once the workers are hired and trained, the public will be able to book visits to the course, he said.

"We have state DCA inspectors coming next week, and we hope to get our certificate of occupancy from the town as soon as they give it to us,” Kent said, predicting a September opening for FLG X New Jersey. “Everything’s been ready to go.”

He said the property sustained some damage from the recent tropical storm. “Nothing related to the course, but some large trees around the property came down and one took out our stop sign, some of our rails, and they were laying across our driveway,” Kent said.
