TAPintoTravels – All U.S. citizens should be aware that passport fees are set to increase this spring.
The U.S. State Department will raise its mandated passport execution fee on April 2 from $25 to $35. This feed applies to passport applications submitted to an authorized agent, including a U.S. Post Office, county clerk or other government office.
Passport applications submitted to the State Department by mail are not subject to the fee increase.
As of Jan. 22, the State Department has increased the overnight passport delivery service fee increased from $15.45 to $15.89 for expedited passport application processing.

Persons applying for a Passport must present:
- Evidence of U.S. citizenship in the form of a certified birth certificate with a raised seal and a file date from the registrar of vital statistics from the state, county or municipality the applicant was born in, or a previous passport for natural-born citizens. Hospital birth certificates and baptismal certificates are not acceptable. If applying for a passport for a minor under the age of 16, both parents and the minor child must be present at time of application. All applicants’ birth certificates must have parents’ names.
- Evidence of U.S. citizenship in the form of a naturalization certificate is required for foreign-born citizens who became U.S. citizens through naturalization.
- Identification in the form of a valid driver's license, a school photo ID or an employment photo ID.
- One 2"x 2" regulation passport photo taken within the last six months. The clerk’s office should offer photo service that day for $10.
No cash will be accepted. Payment is accepted in the form of check or money order only.
All applicants must appear in person.
Processing time is approximately four to six weeks. Expedited applications take approximately three weeks to be processed, and there is an additional fee.
