The Mahopac Indians 10-and-under softball team won the WPBA summer travel league championship. The Indians finished their season undefeated with a record of 13-0-1. The Indians faced tough competition from Carmel, Somers, Cortland A and East Fishkill teams.
Starting pitcher Riley Evers led the team, pitching 47.5 innings and recording 103 strikeouts. Additional defensive support was provided by infielders Olivia Whitmarsh, Emma DeMuro, Andriana DiVincenzo, Caitlyn Wolf, Adrianna Pranzo and Kiera MacDowell. Outfielders Ella Hovsepian, Rebecca Peikes, Gianna Lafaro, Hannah Nygard and Madeline Hanlon played great. Evers was backed up with great defensive play behind the plate by starting catcher Angelique Kavalieratos.
Offensively the team was led in batting average by Evers (.741) Whitmarsh (.655) and MacDowell (.611). On-base percentage leaders were Evers (.800) Hovsepian (.800) and Hanlon (.774). Runs batted in leaders were Evers (20), DeMuro (17) and Whitmarsh (15). Stolen base leaders were Whitmarsh (45), Hovsepian (26) and Evers (25)
The team was coached by John DeMuro, Mike DiVincenzo, Danielle Whitmarsh, Dave Hovsepian, Erica Wolf and Scott Nygard.
