MAHOPAC, N.Y. – Vin Bastone (23 points, 7 rebounds) and Matthew McMahon (16 points, 7 rebounds, 8 assists, 4 steals) had big games to lead the Mahopac boys basketball team to a 67–51 win over John Jay (East Fishkill) in a league meeting on Friday, Jan. 17, at Mahopac.
Patrick McMahon added 7 points and grabbed 7 boards, and the Indians got solid play from Ryan Reilly, making his first varsity start, and Colum Ranahan.
“Vin had his best game of the season for us,” said Indians coach Tom McMahon. “We really needed that. Matthew had another solid game, and Colum and Ryan both gave us good play inside.
“Patrick McMahon did a solid job,” the coach added. “He gives us good energy every night. But Vin was really dominant in that game.”
Coach McMahon likes the way his team has been coming together, improving to 5-5 overall, 2-2 in league play.
“We’re 10 games in, and I think it was important for us to get to that .500 Mark,” Coach McMahon said. “Now we have 10 games in the next 17 days, so to head in with a .500 record, I’m pretty pleased with that. We’ve won our last two games, the guys are shooting better, getting good looks, and sharing the ball.”
The Indians were set to host Harrison at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24; travel to New Rochelle at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27; host Carmel at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29; and visit Arlington at 6 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31.
