Carmel Lifts Water Restrictions for District 12

MAHOPAC, N.Y. - The Carmel Town Board has lifted the water restrictions it imposed on water district 12 earlier this summer.

The board made the announcement at its Oct. 28 meeting.

Lack of rain throughout the year forced the board to limit water consumption in district 12. The district is located in Mahopac in an area known as Farmview near the Lake Secor/Agor Lane area.

The town had to truck in water to the district and the cost of that was passed on to its residents.

Town officials were initially concerned that the restrictions would have to be imposed on other water districts, but that never transpired.

‘There was a drop in the well but it has completely recovered and operations have returned to normal,” town engineering consultant John Folchetti told the board. “Actually, it’s been functioning [correctly] for about three weeks now but we wanted to see if it would remain and it has.”

The restrictions had banned district 12 residents from things such as washing cars, watering lawns and operating swimming pools.

I was always very impressed that my dog could bark on command and come when I called his name, until I read in the newspaper about a dog that saved his owner’s life by calling 9-1-1. Apparently, when his owner had a seizure, the dog pushed a speed-dial button for 9-1-1, barked into the receiver for help, and then opened the door when the responders arrived.

Honestly, though, it’s ...
