MAHOPAC, NY - The Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department’s annual parade and carnival kicked off last week, offering fun, food, and thrills for the whole family.

The parade was held Thursday night and despite threatening skies, the rain stayed away and everything went off without a hitch. The carnival — which features arcade games, rides and plenty of classic fair food like cotton candy and ice cream — followed.

Of course, the fire department volunteers manned their food concession, selling their famous sausage and pepper subs and, for the more culinary adventurous — deep-fried Oreos. This year, the fire department is raffling off a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sahara, 75th-anniversary edition, and tickets are just $5. The carnival continues this weekend: Thursday, Friday, and Saturday at the firehouse on the corner of Route 6 and Croton Falls Road. Festivities get under way at 7 p.m.
