MAHOPAC, N.Y.-Mahopac’s boys basketball team had a golden opportunity last Thursday. The Indians were set to lock horns with Arlington in a battle for the league title, and the showdown was in Mahopac.

The home team led for most of the game. But the Admirals surged back in the fourth quarter to take a late lead, and held on to break the Indians’ hearts, 61-57.

Mahopac led 16-9 after one, 33-22 at the break and 41-36 at the end of three.

But with Mahopac clinging to a precarious lead in the fourth, it was an Arlington steal and score that tied the game at 48-48. The visitors took their first lead of the evening, 52-50, with 1:54 left in the game, on a pair of Reuben Greene free throws.

An impatient Mahopac put up a fast shot at the other end, but it didn’t fall and the Admirals cashed in again with a Nico Bosser three that put the Admirals up by five.
