MAHOPAC, N.Y.-Firefighters from the Mahopac Falls Fire Department (MFFD) were able to contain a house fire on Concord Road last Tuesday (March 6) and save the home from total destruction.
The department was dispatched early Tuesday afternoon for a possible house fire on Concord, just off Route 6N. Carmel police were first on the scene and relayed that flames were climbing up the outside of the residence and police dispatchers relayed the info to the 911 dispatcher, where the fire was upgraded to a confirmed working fire.
First arriving MFFD members were informed of live wires hanging low, so hose lines were hand-laid to the scene several hundred feet down the road so crews could begin to attack the fire before a power company bucket truck could raise the power lines and allow the fire trucks to pass safely.
In the meantime, calls were put out for Mahopac and Putnam Valley fire departments to respond under mutual aid, along with other Carmel police and State Police units, the County Fire Investigation Team, Battalion 19 and Mahopac Falls Fire Police, which closed the road.
Fire officials said the owners of the residence were at home at the time and stayed in their car a distance away watching the firefighters do their job. No injuries were reported, and the investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing.
