MAHOPAC, N.Y.-Mahopac’s girls basketball squad came into this season with several question marks, including who would take over at point guard for the graduated Amanda Geyer.

Scratch that concern after point guard Zina McInerney hosed the Yorktown Huskers with 19 points as part of a three-point shooting frenzy that earned the junior all-tournament honors.

“It feels like I have a bigger role on the team now,” McInerney said. “I’m also helping a lot of the younger girls, since it is a building up kind of year. I just want to show them how to play the game.”

Mahopac fended off the Huskers late to preserve a 47-38 victory in the consolation match of the Walter Panas tournament on Jan. 6. The tourney had been postponed for about a month before players took the court last week.
