MAHOPAC, N.Y.—  Winning league titles has become a yearly occurence for Mahopac’s girls lacrosse team.

The Indians continued that trend in 2018 when they earned their fourth consecutive title with wins over Wappingers and Carmel.

Mahopac crushed host Wappingers 15-2 on May 12 to close out its regular season with an 11-5 record including a 6-0 league mark.

“We are very excited to finish the year as league champions for the fourth straight year including going undefeated in league for the last three years,” Mahopac coach Jim Lieto said. “We look forward to sectional play.”

Caroline Raymond and Colleen MacNeil (1A) tallied four goals apiece for an Indians team that built a 13-0 lead in the first half.

Sophia DeFrancesco (2G, 1A), Gigi Genovese (2G), Devin King (1G, 1A), Lindsay Neilis (1G), Ally Conlin (1G), Zina McInerney (1A), Jordan Barbagallo (2 saves) and Megan Citarella (2 saves) helped the Indians fill up the stat sheet.

Raymond had four goals and one assist in an 8-3 league win over visiting Carmel on May 9.

MacNeil (2G), Neilis (1G), McInerney (1G), Genovese (1A) and Barbagallo (7 saves) did the job for the Indians in the senior night victory.

“It is always great to get a win on senior night,” Lieto said. “We are excited to honor the Class of 2018 with a victory over our rival Carmel. The seniors all played wonderfully and should be proud of all they have accomplished so far in their time with Mahopac lacrosse. To make it even sweeter for the Class of 2018, we secured our fourth straight league title to ensure that they would graduate as the first class ever to win league titles every year of their high school career.”

Catrina Babnik made nine saves for Carmel, which dropped to 7-7.

Mahopac honored its six seniors: Morgan Kirby, Raymond, Hannah Lieto, Siobhan Hynes, Francesca Mangione and Conlin.

“Morgan Kirby is a two-year captain who is a gifted athlete and is equally successful on the offensive and defensive ends of the field,” Lieto said. “Caroline Raymond will finish her career as one of the most proficient scorers in the history of Mahopac lacrosse. Hannah Lieto is a strong defender for the Indians and is a ball hawk when it comes to ground balls. Siobhan Hynes is a force on the defensive end and  sees things on the field so well. She keeps the defense moving and shuts down any attacker she faces.  Francesca Mangione is another strong senior defender. She has developed a great ability to check the ball away from opposing attackers and she steps up to all challenges. Ally Conlin is a strong attacker. She uses her speed to get to the net quickly or put pressure on opposing defenders during the ride.”

Mahopac fell to defending Class B section champion Yorktown 10-5 on May 11. DeFrancesco (2G), Caitlyn Reilly (1G), McInerney (1G, 1A), Natalie Scanlon (1G) and Barbagallo (5 saves) contributed.

The Indians received the No. 3 seed in the Class A sectionals and will host sixth-seeded Scarsdale in the opening round at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 18.
