MAHOPAC, N.Y.— Community members, schools, churches and businesses in Mahopac painted the town purple on Friday in preparation for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event coming to Mahopac High School next month.

Purple represents every type of cancer and is the official color of Relay for Life. “Paint The Town Purple” supports the American Cancer Society’s mission of saving lives and creating a world with less cancer, and more birthdays by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, and by finding cures.

Business owners and employees wore purple to show support of the Relay for Life and windows and storefronts featured purple ribbons and other decorations to commemorate the event.
