SOUTHEAST, N.Y. - Police said a Mahopac teen will not face charges after his car struck and killed a bicyclist from Danbury on Route 6 in Southeast on Friday, Aug. 25.

The Putnam County Sheriff’s Office said that, according to preliminary investigative findings, David Eric Wellin, 68, was bicycling westbound along Route 6, just east of Starr Ridge Road, at about 9:05 a.m. Friday. He was reportedly traveling along the right-hand shoulder of the road when he tried making a left turn across the roadway and crossed into the path of a car that was overtaking him from behind in the westbound lane of the road. The car struck the bicycle broadside and Wellin was fatally injured. He was taken by ambulance to Danbury Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the car was identified as Ryan T. Smith, 18, of Maple Hill Drive in Mahopac, who was traveling alone in a 2000 Honda Civic. He was not injured in the crash. Police said no charges have been filed in connection with the case. However, the investigation into the cause of the crash will continue.

But like any good meal, the key to stellar pizza is the recipe and the quality of the ...

A (Burnt) Toast to Love and Marriage, on the Rocks

In its first few moments, sitcom-style comedy “Clever Little Lies” grabs audience attention right away, with one of the most revealing wardrobe changes you’ll ever see on stage. It is done modestly but just provocatively enough to elicit vocal appreciation from amused patrons.

The Adventures of Superdog

I was always very impressed that my dog could bark on command and come when I called his name, until I read in the newspaper about a dog that saved his owner’s life by calling 9-1-1. Apparently, when his owner had a seizure, the dog pushed a speed-dial button for 9-1-1, barked into the receiver for help, and then opened the door when the responders arrived.

Honestly, though, it’s ...
