MAHOPAC, N.Y.-A plan to extend sewer service down the Route 6 corridor in the heart of Mahopac is moving forward and county officials are calling the project a “game changer.”

“We have seen many opportunities come and go and that is because of the [lack of] infrastructure,” County Executive MaryEllen Odell told the Town Board at its meeting on Feb. 28. “We have spent a lot of money on residential infrastructure projects, but we need to spend more on commercial infrastructure projects. The time is now. The future is now for this town.”

The plan calls for bringing sewer service from the Buckshollow Road intersection on Route 6 all the way to the Somers/Mahopac border. An obstacle has been the lack of a viable sewage treatment plant to accommodate the plan.
