Hall bathroom, guest bath, half bath, little’s girl’s or boy’s room, it’s probably the smallest room in your home. And all too often, it’s the most blandly decorated room in the home. And worse still, it’s probably the room most often frequented by your guests!

So, why not let your imagination and creativity flow! Make a bold statement with your powder room!  Work on creating a focal point. It’s not uncommon for small powder rooms to have no window, and let’s face it, there’s nothing beauteous about a toilet and vanity.

Here are a few ideas to consider when considering giving this room a makeover:

1. The vanity. Replacing a plain laminate top with a beautiful granite surface might be just the ticket. Or, consider a vanity designed as a handsome furniture piece that is not only graciously designed but fully functional as well. They are designed to give a small powder room a fabulous focal point.

2. Dramatic wallpaper could certainly reduce the boxy feeling these small rooms are typically known for. Think about selecting something exciting and spectacular! Today’s wallcoverings contain or replicate natural fibers, offer stunning metallic finishes and even offer embedded jewels and crystals. Just think of the drama you can create.

3. Flooring. Consider replacing vinyl with a new laminate, tiled floor or an earthy, tumbled stone finish. An exciting, inviting area rug might add just the right warmth and cozy touch to this often-used space.

4. Lighting. We all know that lighting is everything. That philosophy extends to the powder room. Harsh overhead lights are not only hard on the eyes but do not flatter anyone’s complexion. Guests using a powder room deserve to be enfolded in a sufficiently-lit yet calming space with flattering light for when they catch a glimpse of themselves before stepping back in to your home.

So how about it? Have a look at your powder room. Could it use a little makeover—or a large redo? Create a room that your family and guests alike will rave about. Your powder room will have more traffic than it already does!
