MAHOPAC, N.Y. - Carmel police are looking for a man who robbed the Video Game Plus business at 2 Clark Place Saturday afternoon and assaulted the owner.
Police said that at around 1:15 p.m. a man walked into the video game store brandishing a handgun and demanded money. He then struck the owner of the store in the head with the weapon, grabbed the cash register and fled.
Witnesses told police the suspect ran down Clark Place in the direction of South Lake Boulevard and into the parking lot of Plus-MD Urgent Care where police believe he drove away in a new-model gray pickup truck.
“We used a K-9 unit to track him and it lost the scent in that parking lot,” said Lt. John Dearman of the Carmel Police Department. “That’s why we think he had the vehicle parked there and drove away.”
Dearman said the owner of the store was brought to the hospital where he was treated and released. It is unknown at this time how much cash was in the register.
Police describe the suspect as a skinny white male, late 30s to early 40s, about 6-foot-2 with grizzled facial hair. He was wearing a black and white flannel shirt and blue jeans, with a dark-colored baseball cap, sunglasses and gloves.
Anyone with any information can call the Carmel Police Department at 845-628-1300 and ask for the detective division.
