WESTPORT, Conn. – The Mahopac wrestling team turned in a solid performance at last Saturday’s Staples (Connecticut) Dual Meet tournament, going 2-2 to take third place.
Indians team captain Larry Nardecchia went 4–0 at 145 pounds. James Russo (126), Xander Smith (106), Ryan Kick (126), Londrim Hasanramaj (220) and Sam Przymylski (113) all went 3–1 at the tournament. Brock Fitzpatrick went 2-0 at 170, and AJ Watts went 2-1 at 138.
“The boys really rallied together, they wrestled with a lot of fire and intensity,” said Indians coach Steve Tornambe. “They all wrestled well. Larry had a really strong day—he dominated everyone he faced.”
That same Saturday, Indians captains Angelo Centrone and Tyler Roa traveled to the Eastern States Tournament, where Centrone (30-2) placed fifth at 113 pounds, while Roa (24-2) went 1-2.
“Angelo wrestled tough, and faced some tough competition,” Tornambe said. “He wrestled very smart. His losses were in the quarterfinals and consolation semifinal, and one loss was to the Connecticut state champ. Overall, it was a very good experience. Only two wrestlers from New York finished ahead of him. Tyler was in a very difficult weight class at 145. But it was still a great experience.”
The Indians also dominated last Wednesday at home, posting a 69-14 victory over John Jay (East Fishkill).
Picking up wins for the Indians were: Kick at 126, Nardecchia at 145, Roa at 152, Fitzpatrick at 170, Liam Condon at 182, Andy He at 195, Safiullah Ahmed at 220, Hasanramaj at 285, Chris Morris at 99, Przymylski at 106, Centrone at 113, and Aiden Muldoon at 120 pounds.
Mahopac was scheduled to visit Arlington on Thursday, and host Port Chester Friday at 4 p.m.
