CROTON FALLS, N.Y. - Mahopac artist Monica Craig was an elementary school teacher from Bolivia, and when she moved to America, she became a respiratory therapist.
In search of a hobby, Craig discovered painting and Mahopac became an inspiration.
“I enjoy all the birds and the beautiful views of Lake Mahopac,” she said.
Just dabbling in art occasionally was simply not enough for her and so painting ultimately developed into a full-time passion. Craig currently exhibits a diversity of paintings in places such as Railyard Arts Studio in neighboring Croton Falls. She has also put on many solo shows, illustrated five books, and has written and illustrated her own book, “Tody’s Tale,” which is cleverly laid out in English or Spanish depending on how you hold it.
Craig’s book, along with many of her smallest, framed paintings each with their own hand-made gift bag, will be available at Railyard Arts Studio’s first annual holiday boutique on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 5-9 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 15, noon-4 p.m.
Railyard Arts Studio is located across from the Croton Falls Train Station complex on Front Street (621 Route 22). The artworks, gift items, and holiday decorations of over 23 artists including several from Mahopac, including Elizabeth Barksdale, Kelly Edwards, Scott Garette and Jill Leary will be featured.
