MAHOPAC, N.Y. - Cub Scout Pack 71 (from Fulmar Road Elementary School) held its annual Pinewood Derby on Friday evening, Feb. 28, at the Mahopac firehouse on Route 6. Scouts from kindergarten through fifth grade participated in the event.

The Pinewood Derby is a racing event for unpowered, unmanned miniature cars. Scouts build their own cars from wood, usually from kits containing a block of pinewood, plastic wheels, and metal axles. Then they paint it with their own original design.

This year, first place went to Rylan McIntyre; second place went to Frankie Korovich, and third place went to Isaiah Mitchell. The trophy for Firemen’s Choice went to Ben Rucker. The Firemen’s Choice Award is selected by members of the Mahopac Fire Department, who pick the car whose design they like best.

To complete the festivities, D’Berto’s Pizza donated pizza to the Pinewood Derby event.
