MAHOPAC, N.Y. - Mahopac marked the occasion of America’s birthday with events both on land and on sea... or lake. On Thursday morning, (July 4) Mahopac VFW Post No. 5491 led a parade of boats, festooned in red, white and blue bunting and flags, across Lake Mahopac with patriotic music blaring. The parade kicked off at the VFW post on East Lake Boulevard with a three-gun salute by the post’s color guard before the boats headed out. Later that evening, the Recreation & Parks Department held a patriotic concert in Red Mills Park featuring the Norm Hathaway Big Band, along with Colonial soldier re-enactments as they fired off a cannon at the climax of the “1812 Overture.”
