MAHOPAC, N.Y. - As of Monday afternoon, March 16, the governor has directed that all schools be closed for two weeks from Wednesday, March 18 through Tuesday, March 31. The intention of this closure is to help mitigate the spread of the virus in our schools. This information is subject to changes based upon ongoing updates. At this point, Mahopac school officials recommend that all families begin to prepare for extended school closure.
“In the Mahopac Central School District, we remain dedicated to serving the educational needs of our students,” said Superintendent Anthony DiCarlo. “In doing so, we have developed plans to support student learning while they are at home. Please be reminded that during the school closures, all athletic and extracurricular activities are canceled.”
The Section One Executive Committee has postponed practices, scrimmages, and games until March 30. They will reassess the status of Spring sports on that date. Captains’ practices are not to be held.
School Nutrition Program
The district is working to support students who participate in the free and reduced lunch program. The district is awaiting state guidelines and will share the necessary information as determined by the New York State Education Department.
School officials recognize that students and families may need emotional support during this very difficult time. Those who recognize anxiety or stress in their child(ren) and feel they need support, can contact the appropriate counselor or clinician laid out in the recent email sent by the district to parents.
“The entire MCSD team remains dedicated to serving the educational and social-emotional needs of our students,” DiCarlo said. “In doing so, we have developed these plans to support students learning while they are at home. We appreciate your patience and support as we navigate through these difficult times.”
